Many paddocks are bordered by trees on one side, and have a few isolated trees near the centre
This arrangement offers several possibilities for revegetation
view of a woodland edge in Aberfoyle.. for example
The best option is to establish a corridor for regeneration between the woodland and the isolated trees. This can be done by stringing fencing between the trees and the woodland edge. Note that, if the patch of trees is more than about 50 meters from the woodland, that this technique is unlikely to result in regeneration. In that situation, tubestock planting may be necessary.
Fencing can be used to extend woodland edges. Use existing trees as some corners, then drive a few new posts to extend the area for seedling recruitment.
Extending fencing in the direction of an existing woodland can help to create an island of natural regeneration, while maintaining room for stock to rest in the shade.
